Wonderful case: The girl who is afraid of flowers
People love the spring of flowers.
However, one afternoon in the early spring, on my way home from work, I overheard a young girl sighing, “What annoying spring!
“Because of the professional sensitivity, I was immediately greeted by an article and asked her kindly:” Hundred flowers bloom in spring, so beautiful, how can it be annoying?
She answered me frankly: “Because flowers are very scary to me.
She said so seriously that I immediately thought that she might have a phobia.
So I suggested to her with concern: I will ask her and her parents to come to our psychological consultation clinic to talk with her. Maybe she may be depressed.
A few days later, she really came with her mother. Her mother introduced me: her name is Ye X, thirteen years old, and her parents are farmers in Beijing.
Her mother was afraid of cotton since she was young, she did n’t dare to touch cotton, and she was afraid that others would throw cotton on her. Even when she saw others taking cotton, she was so nervous and sweaty that she had to hide away.
When the cotton is harvested in late autumn every year, she is terrified and never dares to help adults pick cotton.
Once, the family piled the recovered cotton peaches in the hospital, scaring her to run to her uncle’s house for several days, and dare not go home until the cotton peaches in the family were finished processing.
As she grew older, her fear of cotton slowly eased and gradually disappeared.
When Xiaoye was seven months old, her mother owned her to go to a pro-Wei family for a wedding. When she first entered a new house, a firecracker sounded in the courtyard. A little cat came to the table, knocked down the vase with flowers and fell to the ground.
Xiaoye was very scared when she saw this scene and burst into tears.
When she was ten months old, her grandmother hugged her to play in the yard. As soon as she got closer to the peony flowers planted in the yard, she burst into tears. No matter how coquettish, when she took her away from the flowers, she stopped crying.
When she was one year old, she took her to the door again and found that she cried as soon as she saw the flower pattern on someone’s bed sheet and the flower in the vase.
This is why the family valued leaflet afraid of flowers.
But it may cause suspicion that her fear of flowers is as good as her mother’s fear of cotton.
However, as she grew older, her fear of flowers not only disappeared, but became more serious.
When she was four years old, she and a group of children in the village followed the uncle’s team to watch the crowd. When she found the big white flower on the coffin and the small white flower that someone was sitting on, she immediately turned around and ran towards the house.Scarlet.
Her grandmother asked her anxiously, “What happened?
“She replied in horror:” Flower chases me!
Flowers chased me with open mouth!
“The whole family laughed loudly.
At the age of six, she attended a preschool preparatory class, and as soon as she was there, she caught up to celebrate the National Day and rehearsed a cultural program.
The performance of the girls in their class is dancing with paper flowers, which offends her taboo and refuses to participate in rehearsals.
In the future, she gradually became afraid that she would be scared only by flowers. Whether it was floral patterns on cloth, paper, or paper flowers, plastic flowers, flowers, she was scared.
In recent years, urban greening has progressed, and a lot of flowers have been planted on green spaces along the street, which is pleasing to the eye.
But it was a terrible thing for Ye X. On her way to school, she had to take a detour to hide the unflowered flowers in order to avoid those “terrible” flowers.
Over time, the classmates knew that she was afraid of flowers and often joked with her. She deliberately threw flowers on her, scaring her with pale, cold hands and feet. Even during class, she couldn’t concentrate on listening to the teacher. She always looked away.Lest someone throw flowers in and drop her on the window.
In her heart, the flowers are so terrible that she must be restless and her grades will decline.
After hearing her mother ‘s remarks, I asked her, “When you calm down, do you think the flowers are worth scaring?
“Of course not worth it.
“She answered simply.
So I tentatively encouraged her to go to the consultation room next door to see the pots of flowers on the windowsill, and she agreed timidly.
But as soon as I saw the pots of flowers when I entered the door, I was scared with legs and pale, and I dared not take a step forward. After a while, I saw her sweaty face, counted her pulse, and jumped to 120 times per minute.Already.
I had to take her back to my office.
I told her that it was actually a symptom of the disease.
This disease is called phobia, or phobia for short. In response to this disease, it is impossible to try to overcome the feelings of fear with such words as “there is no reason”.
The only way is to receive psychological treatment, such as systemic desensitization.
After listening to my words, she was very happy and expressed her willingness to receive treatment.
After each month, Ye X has walked away from the flowers freely, no longer afraid.
During the treatment, I first let her practice deep muscle relaxation.
At the beginning, she could not always relax completely, but she worked hard and practiced when she got home from school.
After more than two weeks of hard work, she finally learned to relax deep muscles.
Then she started a formal treatment, letting her quietly lie on a reclining chair to relax her muscles. After 15-30 seconds, she concentrated on imagining the lightest situation she was afraid of, such as touching a flower pattern on paper or cloth.
When she was frightened by this imagination, she immediately asked her to stop imagining.
Relax for another 15-30 seconds, and still imagine the situation above.
After repeating this twice, you can start to imagine situations with a little more fear, such as holding paper flowers or plastic flowers.
Relax and imagine repeating twice.
Back to imagining the first situation.
This is done alternately until the first situation is no longer caused by fear of imagination, and the first situation is abandoned.
Then start imagining the situation with the most fear, such as standing in front of flowers.
Repeat the imagination twice, and then alternate with the second situation, until these imaginations no longer cause fear.
In this way, she actively cooperated with the treatment, and the relaxed response gradually overcome the fear caused by those situations.
In order to verify the efficacy, I took her to the clinic next door and stood in front of the flowerpot. Her fear response was remedied than before, but she was still afraid to touch the flowers with her hands.
So we started to practice close to the real thing.
Have her sit five meters away from the floral pattern on paper or cloth, look at the pattern with your eyes, and relax your whole body muscles. After many exercises, after the fear-free experience appears, shorten the distance gradually until youDon’t be afraid to touch it with your hand.
Repeat the exercises for paper flowers and plastic.
Finally, she performed desensitization training near flowers and repeated the process from far to near. Finally, she could hold the flowers without fear.
In practice, although she often felt terrible and unwilling to “find her own hardships”, she and my mother encouraged me to support her and win.
Hard work pays off.
After monthly system desensitization, her phobias were cured.
She said happily to me: “This is the first time in my life that the flower is beautiful and lovely.
“I listened to her and said that I was relieved to see her standing freely in front of the flowers and smiling.
